New Link Party in Town! & It's a Cinch Mantel Makeover

Anything simple, easy, a piece of cake, a snap, straightforward, no problem, uncomplicated ...
well you get the idea!
Like this quick mantel makeover I created for a house
I'm staging for a sale.

Here's the before (stifling a yawn)!
Before Mantel
Depth and interest are easily added by simply layering
a few mirrors over the big black mirror.
Two chunky stone finials replace the spindly candlesticks for more interest and texture.
That's it - adding a few bolder pieces and layering them brings the mantel from snore to score!

Exceptionally Eclectic - So Stylish It's Hard to Believe It's a Basement!
She designs her own furniture (that fabulous banquette), builds (well, her hubs does), makes her own stencils,
sews up a frenzy - what can't Amanda from Dixie Delights do?
Her skills are on display in her fabulous basement - which definitely does not look like underground living!

The chevron pattern over the bar is fun - and can you believe Amanda made her own stencil by piecing together poster board! Click here to see how she made it.
Board and batten on the walls was easier to install than drywall and the ceiling tiles
(necessary with old house plumbing!) are a nice modern touch.
I love the way she hung the curtains to the floor - it really helps disguise the small window size.

Open shelving over three unfinished cabinets that were painted make great counter space.
Go check out the scary before of the basement bathroom to truly appreciate how they transformed it in only one weekend!
Not only does Amanda have a stylish basement, the rest of her house is equally amazing.
She's a plate wall loving girl like me and from the looks of this numbered staircase, she really gets my number!

Fabulous Friday Finds - Tarnished Silver Platters
I remember when my mom had me polish her silver tea set - not fun!
Getting into all those nooks and crannies was nearly impossible and then after all my hard work,
the damn thing would tarnish right up again!
I have the perfect solution - embrace the tarnish!
I've been collecting silver plate platters and they're easy to find at thrift shops.
Don't they look great in all their tarnished glory stored in an old wooden toolbox!

The Owl vs The Peacock - A Throw Down!
The Owl vs. The Peacock!
Sounds like a kid's story but it's not - this is war!
You see, I love owls and have them scattered throughout my house.
But some people are, dare I say it... are claiming that the peacock is the new owl - but I never got the memo!
So in one corner we have the peacock who struts his brightly colored stuff (a bit cockily I might add)
and in the other corner, the wise old owl with those big eyes and cute hoot!
Let's hear from the peacock.
I may be persuaded to at least entertain this heresy after seeing the amazing peacock mural from The Rooster and The Hen.
