"Love Is" Valentine Wreath

Remember the cute "Love Is" boy and girl from the 70's?  I loved those little cartoon cuties and even had a Love Is drinking glass when I was a kid!  This year, I decided to create a Love Is Valentine Wreath!
Picture
The creator, Kim Casali, began the series for the Los Angeles Times in 1970 with black and white cartoons of the cherubic little boy and girl, each with a Love Is saying like "Love is tickling his nose with a piece of grass". In 1978, she passed the reins to Bill Asprey who began drawing the cartoons in color.  He's still going strong and new comics appear daily at Go Comics.

I printed out pictures of the cartoons and used a glue stick to attach them to a few patterns of pink scrapbook paper that I trimmed with deckle edge scissors.  Then I formed the heart doilies (from the Dollar Store) into the shape of a big heart and attached them with the same trusty glue stick.  The cartoons were stuck onto the hearts last and on the center heart, I wrote "Love Is" with a red pen.  Simple and so cute!

Unusual Wreath & a Vintage Christmas

It's not a dented old jell-o mold - it's a Christmas wreath!  That's what I saw when I spotted this little baby at the thrift shop.  With a bright red bow, it's festive and perfect for the kitchen (although I hate to bake)!  This mold was among the pile of thrift store booty (here) I found recently.  I said I would be using most of it for my Christmas decorating this year and I have.

Filled with vintage ornaments, from family or collected over the years, are two old glass fish bowls.  In between them sits a Japan Santa mug like the one I had as a kid.  Snowmen salt and pepper shakers my girls painted years ago join Santa.

Santa is brimming with mini marshmallows. His cheeks may not be as rosy but this Santa is still a looker!

Marshmallow World Wreath & Other Beauties

I still remember my grade school Christmas show when we belted out the tune "It's a Marshmallow World."  Yeah, I know it's probably on your list of top 10 Christmas songs of all time (has anyone ever heard of it?!).

Cue the music!
It's a Marshmallow World in the Winter
When the Snow Comes to Cover the Ground
It's a Time for Play
It's a Whipped Cream Day
I Wait for it the Whole Year Round ...
Sorry, got sidetracked in my grade school memories!  So anyway - I decided to do a marshmallow wonderland and make this fabulously delicious looking wreath!  My girls love s'mores so I attached a few skewers with a clothes line (love that it looks like butchers twine) I found at my old standby - the Dollar Store.

So easy - all you need are large marshmallows (I used four bags), small marshmallows (just a few handfuls), toothpicks, a white foam wreath form (mine was 16") and a ribbon for hanging.  Tie the ribbon in a double knot around the wreath, poke in a toothpick then put a marshmallow on top and continue until you've covered the whole form.  The best part was this only took about 1/2 hour.  Love me a simple craft!  When you're done, just pop it in the fridge to harden a bit.  You may want to keep this wreath inside so the critters don't get to it!
Here are some of my other favorite winter wreaths - I am going to stockpile silver platters so I can make the silver wreath one day!  The cork one is amazing too and I'll have to start saving my corks  - it should take about two weeks to save that many (not - I'm not that much of a lush people)!  And the ornament wreath would look great with vintage Christmas balls.
