Sugar High Valentine Party

Ah, gotta love the tween years!  My 12 year old twins decided to throw a Valentine's party - girls only!  After all, girls rule and boys drool (at least for now)!
Centerpiece
What's better than a table overflowing with sugar?

Welcome
Framed Pics - When the guests arrived, we took pics of them in a huge frame!  Each girl gets a pic to take home!

Games
Pin the Lips on Justin Bieber - Hung a poster of the Biebs and cut out lips from scrapbook paper.
The girls were blindfolded, spun around and tried to come closet to Justin's lips!

Candy Heart Stacking - see who can stack the most candy conversation hearts!

Guess Who - The girls filled out a questionnaire with 10 burning questions such as, What 3 things would you bring to a dessert island? and Who's your secret crush?  They had a blast guessing who was who!

Dance Off - Blasted the tunes and the girls boogied til they couldn't boogie no more!

Menu
Homemade mac and cheese topped with crumbled potato chips (courtesy of The Hubs)

Cupid's Floats - Cherry 7-Up, a scoop of vanilla ice cream - topped with whipped cream and a marichino cherry

Chocolate fountain with cubed pound cake, strawberries, bananas and marshmallows to dip - the hit of the party!

In Her Shoes - Valentine Mantel

What better way to decorate for Valentine's Day than by remembering our kids when they were sweet (aka, never talked back and listened to whatever we said)!

My still sweet twins are 12 now but I saved some of their cutest shoes - from booties to ballet shoes.  They look adorable on the mantel!
Picture
An old window and scrapbook paper hearts could not be simpler to make.
Picture
The girls all gussied up - now it's difficult to get them into a dress!  Love these jester booties.
Picture
They are long over the pink princess phase so it's nice to be able to be pink once again!
Picture
The checkered slat tabletop was missing the legs when I bought it - it used to hang as art in the girls nursery.
Picture
Crusty old backplates found during the renovation combine with the girls tarnished baby cups and spoons.
Picture
It's hard to believe these tiny red chairs used to seat the girls at their art table!  More shoes - this time their ladybug rain boots - sit by the hearth (I've always wanted to use the word hearth)!
Picture
The key to our hearts (ugh, I'm getting all Valentine's Day corny)!!

"Love Is" Valentine Wreath

Remember the cute "Love Is" boy and girl from the 70's?  I loved those little cartoon cuties and even had a Love Is drinking glass when I was a kid!  This year, I decided to create a Love Is Valentine Wreath!
Picture
The creator, Kim Casali, began the series for the Los Angeles Times in 1970 with black and white cartoons of the cherubic little boy and girl, each with a Love Is saying like "Love is tickling his nose with a piece of grass". In 1978, she passed the reins to Bill Asprey who began drawing the cartoons in color.  He's still going strong and new comics appear daily at Go Comics.
Picture
I printed out pictures of the cartoons and used a glue stick to attach them to a few patterns of pink scrapbook paper that I trimmed with deckle edge scissors.  Then I formed the heart doilies (from the Dollar Store) into the shape of a big heart and attached them with the same trusty glue stick.  The cartoons were stuck onto the hearts last and on the center heart, I wrote "Love Is" with a red pen.  Simple and so cute!

The wreath hangs on an old french door in my foyer.

Here's a vintage Love Is glass I found here on Etsy.  Wish I still had mine!
