Fall Inspiration

The family went apple picking today and when I saw this great old hanging scale in the farm store, I was inspired to start my fall decorating.  I've seen these scales in flea markets before and one would look great hanging in a kitchen.  The peeling red barn had a chicken coop and inside the barn, I spotted these great old wooden boxes with Naples, NY written on them.  Wish they were for sale!  They would look amazing sitting on the porch heaped with pumpkins and gourds.

We took our apples home and baked an apple pie - recipe courtesy of Grandmom's pie plate.  It's a vintage Country Harvest recipe apple pie baker plate by Royal China that includes a recipe right on it.  They made a whole series of these including plates for pumpkin pie (which I also have), cheesecake, blueberry, quiche and more.  Fluted edges make it easy to crimp the dough.  My girls had fun following the simple recipe and they gave the finished product two thumbs up!

Fall is my favorite time of year and the aroma of apple pie wafting from my kitchen definitely got me ready for the season.  Garden center - here I come!
